Reception & Pre-Prep
Our Reception and Pre-Prep Department is open to boys and girls aged 4 to 7. Reception continues the work of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and we aim to provide a happy, secure and stimulating environment in which all the children are encouraged to use and develop their talents as they grow socially, physically, emotionally and academically.
Reception and Pre-prep has its own separate building on the main school site and its three classes are staffed by three full time teachers and three full time Teaching Assistants. We provide a full, varied and exciting curriculum and we aim to cultivate an enjoyment of learning and independence of thought, leading to a seamless transfer to the Prep Department.
Close contact with parents is a feature of our department and all Pre- Prep parents are invited to an informal 'Meet The Teacher' tea at the beginning of the new academic year. More formal Parent/Teacher meetings are held each term and detailed reports of progress are issued at the end of the Michaelmas and Trinity Terms. In PPR the 'Learning Journeys' started at Nursery are continued and used as the focus for discussions at these meetings. There are opportunities to meet with staff at any time by prior appointment and the contact between home and school is valued by parents.
Pre-Prep children may assemble in the playground from 8.20am each day. Lessons begin at 8.40am and end at 3.15 pm. There is a late class specifically for children whose parents are delayed or who have older siblings in the Prep Department until 3.45pm. Between 3.45 and 4.30pm a Late Class is run for which a charge is made. We do not recommend that PPR children are left there until at least after the Michaelmas Half-Term and there is a facility for those who need to stay until 4.30pm. Children needing longer after school care can take advantage of Activetime, an OFSTED registered after school care club that is based on the school site, offering care up to 6.00pm.
