Library

Our library was relocated to a more central part of the School in 2003 and totally refurbished in the process. It is a bright and sunny room and very popular with every member of our school community.

The new furniture was bought for us by The Friends of Quainton Hall (our very active Parents’ Association) and includes three work-stations equipped with modern computers linked to the Internet and the latest thumb-print system for issuing books. The library is open every lunch hour and after school most days. It is run by a team of volunteer boy librarians, parents and staff. It boasts over 3000 brand-new books and audio-books, each one specially selected to support the National Curriculum and to be of particular interest to children from the age of 4 and boys up to 13 years of age.

The most recent addition has been a video stand which has proved to be tremendously popular. The videos can be taken home for family viewing. To promote reading and literacy and to familiarise our pupils with the library, each Form has a weekly library lesson. In this period pupils are encouraged to either read in silence or aloud to the rest of the class, with a teacher at hand to explain new words. The relaxed ambience of the library makes it an ideal place for meetings.

The Friends of Quainton Hall meet there twice a term and the School Governors now hold their various meetings there as well.
