Middle School From the age seven to nine, our boys are members of the Middle School (Years 3, 4, & 5), which has it own dedicated classrooms and each class has its own Form Teacher. From the age of seven, boys begin to move about the school to attend lessons with subject specialists, including Science. The Middle School classes are not streamed. The average class size is fifteen. Boys are monitored and great care is taken by Form Teachers and subject staff to develop in each boy a good sense of purpose and drive, supported by sound and effective organisational skills. Our aim is to enable each boy to use to the best possible effect the talents he undoubtedly has. In the Middle School a boy’s effort and attainment are regularly assessed and grades are awarded each half term (this is in addition to the report which goes home three times a year). There are two Parent/Teacher Consultations for each form in the course of the academic year. A boy's grades contribute to the Inter-House Competition which is overseen by the Second Master. During the lunch hour and at the end of the school day, many boys are involved in matches and extra-curricular activities. From the age of seven a boy may arrive at school at 08.00am, when he will be looked after by our Playground Supervisor. Some after-school care is available at no additional charge. Prep or Homework is a regular feature of a boy’s life throughout his time at Quainton Hall School. The amount set depends on age. All boys are given a blue Prep Diary and parents check and sign it at least once each week. Boys in the Middle School are also expected to have a book with them at all times. We expect them to keep up their reading at home, especially at the week-end. The boys continue into Year 6 during which they begin their career in the Senior School. |
