About two-thirds of our children learn a musical instrument and secure high music grades in their time at Quainton Hall. The Music Department at Quainton Hall School follows closely, but not exclusively, guidelines laid down by the National Curriculum for Music. The subject plays a very important part within our school curriculum and provides many opportunities for cross-curricular work. Rightly and traditionally, Music enjoys a high profile at Quainton Hall, and musical activity and performance receive support from staff and parents alike. All pupils are given the opportunity to have access to practical music-making at all levels, regardless of ability. Many social skills are developed within the Music curriculum: enjoyment, participation, sharing and teamwork, self-control, self-confidence, self-expression and communication, to name but a few. It is the aim of the Music Department that every pupil will be involved in some way with the musical life of the school. All children have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and a team of specialist teachers provides a wide variety of instruments to choose from. They are also able to study for Associated Board Practical and Theory Examinations. Singing is a popular option and there are many opportunities to sing in concerts, Chapel services and productions, as well as joining one of the School Choirs, which perform regularly. Everyone has the opportunity to attend professional concerts, recitals or productions, and experience workshops with visiting artists/musicians. All pupils of an appropriate standard are encouraged to join either the School Orchestra or the Wind Band or both and to perform both at our regular concerts or, for those whose pieces are shorter, at the regular Friday morning Musical Interlude at the end of the Headmaster’s Assembly. Music activities are planned in such a way as to encourage the full and active participation and enjoyment of all our pupils. Copyright (c) 2009 Quainton Hall School All rights reserved. |
