OUR AIM AND PHILOSOPY

The Pre-School stage between toddler-hood and going to primary school is a very special time in the life of a child.  This is a stage in which children step out into the Pre-School world, without their parents and begin to acquire important social and learning skills.

OUR AIM is to provide the basis for the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of your child, in a way that is fun, un-pressured, but stimulating.

OUR AIM is to encourage each child to use his/her own natural individuality, initiative, creativity and concentration.  The children are allowed to develop at their own pace, so as to become independent secure and confident, and aware of the world around them.  The children will not be hurried through their own particular stage of play, nor distracted from their particular interests, which we hope to develop.  The children will be encouraged to make their own discoveries through play.  We provide a choice of activities, which will help the child to add to his/her own individual body of knowledge at a level relevant to him/her.

We hope in our Nursery, to foster social and emotional growth and to encourage a growing independence.  The children will also learn to communicate with other children and adults and participate with respect for the needs of others.

OUR Nursery aims to ensure good practice at all times, as well as dealing with policies of Health, Safety, Equal Opportunities and Special Education needs.

OUR Nursery is registered and inspected by OFSTED and is also a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.

At our Nursery we feel that the children need;

  • To be actively (both physically and mentally) involved in first hand experiences, indoor and out.
  • To use their senses to explore the environment.
  • To experiment with ways of using equipment, space and time.
  • To practise and refine their social and physical skills.
  • To talk about their experiences with others.
  • To set and solve their own problems (with and without support).
  • To observe, question and imitate others.
  • To be offered a wide range of materials and experiences and the time to explore them in depth.
  • To have access to adults who are interested in their experiences and achievements.

In order for the children to achieve this, we provide:

  • Opportunities for role play, such as home corner, dressing up, puppets, story props and a range of materials for children to create their own settings for role play.
  • Opportunities for exploration of the natural environment in and out of doors including sand, water, clay and earth.
  • Opportunities for expressive and creative experience with pencils, paint, fabric junk materials and with books, stories, music and movement.
  • Opportunities for continuing development of physical skills, such as climbing, throwing, using a wide range of tools etc.
  • Opportunities for construction and problem solving with bricks made from different materials and of sizes, a range of construction kits and junk materials.
  • Opportunities for problem solving using a wide range of materials including puzzles, art and craft and construction materials, turn taking games etc.
  • Opportunities for a variety of social interactions - for being active and for being quiet; for working alone and with others.

This is all possible by following the Nursery Curriculum
