From the Headmaster 


Dear Parents, 

 I want to pick up from where I left off last week and I can report that in the Aldenham relay races Quainton Hall came second in both groups missing out on first place by 5 secs in one race. I have been so impressed not only with the opportunities the children get, but also, with the competitive nature that the QHS pupils now show following a year of successes. I look forward to my annual visit to the Friday cricket match against Orley Farm this afternoon.

I was away at Walsingham at the beginning of the week reporting to the Guardians on the year. I was very proud to speak about all our achievements and the children’s successes in what has been a very productive year.

This term is a very busy one and we had two trips already this week with PPR visiting Willows Farm and P6 going to the National Gallery. These are essential to ensure that the children recieve a very broad education  at QHS and my thanks go to the staff for organising the trips for the children.

I was lucky enough to go to the Royal College of Art’s exhibition twice this week. It was lovely to see work by a QHS artist mounted on the Winners’ Wall. I congratulate all the children who were selected to be exhibited; it certainly was an impressive display of art.

I am looking forward to speaking to the parents this coming Thursday 9 May at our Future Schools evening. I can now confirm that we will have speakers from The John Lyon School, Haberdashers’ and Aldenham. It should be a very informative evening and I hope as many of you as possible can make it.

As the blessed month of Ramadan approaches, may I wish you all a peaceful month. Ramadan Mubarak.

Individual Photographs

Thanks to a lucky entry by Mrs Aleksin-Shah in a prize draw with our photography company, each family should be receiving a mounted photo of their child or children as a free gift from Tempest Photography.  You should also have received an order form for more prints and gifts from what we think look like really good photographs of your children!

Aldenham Cross Country

A brief report and a couple of photos from the 600m relay are now up on the ‘News and Events’ section of the QHS website but, for those of you with a view for figures!, here are the timings for our two groups of runners:

Future School's Evening 


Families with children from P3 to P6 should have received a letter with details of this information evening. During the evening, Mr. Ford and several colleagues will talk in some detail about the processes, support and options for Senior School transfer from QHS.  If you have not yet recieved a letter, please email me for a copy.  If you are intending to come along, please also email me to let me know (simply for catering purposes!)  Parents of children in other classes are welcome, but the evening is particularly aimed at these four year groups.


Book Fair coming to School


The Book Fair opens on 8 May for one week. Please take advantage of the summer offer of “buy 3 books and get the book faircheapest free”.  

book fair second All pupils from Nursery to Prep 8 will have the opportunity to buy books during their English lessons, at break times and lunchtimes. A letter with all this information will be sent home to remind the children to bring in some money.

As a rough guide – pupils will be accompanied by their teachers on the following days:
PPR, P3D, P4 (both groups), P6 (Mrs Beevor’s group): Wednesday 8 May 
PP1S and PP1K, PP2, P3S: Thursday 9 May
P5 (Both groups), P7 (both groups), P8 (Both groups): Friday 10 May
P6: (Ms Campion’s Group): Monday 13 May 

However, the Book Fair will be open at all break times and lunchtimes for any child to come and browse!


Charity Big Breakfast 


To make sure that as many families as possible can participate, we have moved the date of the Big Breakfast to after the end of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid, to Friday 7 June.  We will remind you of this nearer the time.


School Council 


The first meeting for our School Councillors for this term is on Tuesday, our first day back after the Bank Holiday.  The meeting starts at 8:00am, and Mr. Wood will be pleased to see a full house there then.  There is always a lively discussion, and highlights will be reported to parents in due course.

The QHS website now has a report and some photos from our Charity Vintage Tea last week.
